2016 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid: Overview & Release Date

 Overview

The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid has been completely redesigned for the new model year and features a host of big improvements over the model which it replaces. First and foremost, it's larger and offers more cabin space, yet it's nearly 300 pounds lighter, helping to improve not only acceleration--but handling and fuel economy, as well.

A large part of the improvement is due to the new powertrain, which leverages technology from the next-generation 2016 Chevrolet Volt. As a result, the 2016 Malibu Hybrid offers estimated fuel economy of 48 mpg in the city and 45 mpg on the highway--truly remarkable numbers. An all-new 1.8L 4-cylinder engine gets coupled to dual electric motors. The combination helps push power output to a combined 182 horsepower.

In terms of the battery pack, an 80-cell 1.5kWh lithium-ion provides energy and has the ability to power the Malibu Hybrid for up to 55 mph on electricity alone.

Also new for the Malibu Hybrid is an innovate suite of electronic upgrades, including a neat Teen Driver feature which will allow parents to monitor driving statistics on the fly. Chevy's well-engineered MyLink infotainment system also gets an update and includes compatibility with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Release Date

No official release date has been announced, but the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid should go on sale later this year.
